The Saddleworth League dates back to March 28th 1924, at a meeting held at Mossley Bowling Club. Present at the inception were Mossley B.C , Springhead C.Club, Delph C.B & T Club, and of course, Springhead Liberal Club. Over the next few years, more teams came and went. In 1940, Glover Brothers (Mossley) B.C. requested to have the fixtures suspended for the remainder of the season owing to not being able to raise a team owing to war conditions ! In 1967, it was agreed that the league headquarters be transferred to Springhead Liberal Club, and in 1972, the league was extended to three divisions. Two years later, the League celebrated their Golden Jubilee by producing a special brochure including a forward note from the chairman at that time, being our own Ken Redfearn. At this time, the league achieved the highest ever membership with 32 competing teams. During these fifty years, Springhead Liberal Club were league winners in 1951, and Law Swallow Cup winners in 1930, 1931, 1938, 1951 and 1968. Today...the club still maintains its' loyalty with the Saddleworth league, and furthermore its' presence is known around the circuit.
